Creating Social Software-based Learning Enviroments
For week seven’s assignment, I did some browsing for an environment that will host my SSLE project. The question: The pros and cons of using Myspace or Facebook page for a CLE(Collaborative Learning Environment) or PLE(Personal Learning Environment)? To me Myspace and Facebook are just social networking tools meant for entertainment purposes only. You can showcase you work on these sites, but I don’t think it would be a good idea as an learning environment. I have used both of sites before and I have also found myself to be distracted from learning to browse and comment on pages I find on these sites.
Start pages or Google Apps seem to be a better choice for our SSLE project. I think start pages such as iGoogle are better used as a personal start page on a home computer because it displays the calendar, time and temp, daily news or comets, and you can customized the features to fit your needs. I have pageflakes to have most of the same features as iGoogle but with a little more options.
I can use a number of social media sites such as slideshare, flickr, youtube and etc in my project. I have not decided whether to use one or all in my project.
After reading this weeks module and past module on possible environment to host my project I have composed a list of possiblilities:
1. Wiki site (Wetpaint, Wikispaces, Wikia)
Wikis are good for my SSLE because it would allow multiple people to edit and update content. This was my original choice, but after this weeks module I’m looking at another possibilities as well.
2. Pageflake course portal
I have not had any experience in this environment, but after taking a peak at the Professors course portal, I think I maybe sure explore this option a little more.
3. Google Apps site
This seems to be what I probably would most likely use. possible site design link below:

I just created this site to see if I can do it..
Update……..
still in the process of figuring out what kind of content to add to my SSLE Design project. I have decided to do my project in a wiki environment, possibly wetpaint or wikispaces.. fell free to comment on my Design ideas in our class PBwiki…
